Career Snapshot: Business

A career in business can be rewarding, challenging and an overall great experience. Those who have achieved success in the industry know how complex it can be. This career snapshot will breakdown all the different aspects to the business world and how each one contributes to the overall success of a company. Embarking on a career in this industry opens up a lot of opportunities and different avenues, such as organisational development and operations.

There are three main avenues to take with business: general, organisational development and operations. Each of these areas provides different specialisations that allow individuals to approach business in different ways. 

Supervisory Management: Team Leader

Most people who begin a leadership career in business will start as team leaders. Individuals in this role will carry out a mix of duties, varying from complex administrative to operational tasks that require self-development skills. These roles tend to involve providing leadership and guidance to others, while also solving unpredictable problems and analysing information from a variety of sources. 
To embark on this career path study: Certificate IV in Business, Certificate IV in Business (Administration) or Certificate IV in Business (Operations).

 Middle Management: Manager

This level of business leans much more into leadership and frontline management accountabilities. Individuals at this level tend to be more specialised and require a higher level of skills and understanding compared to those on the first level. A managers role and responsibilities will vary depending on the business they are in, however commonly they will have a leadership or supervisor role.
To launch into this career, study: Diploma of Business, Diploma of Business (Operations) or Diploma of Business (Organisational Development).

Senior Management: General Manager or CEO

This is generally the highest level someone can attain in business and requires a significant amount of knowledge, experience and training. Individuals at this level will need to use critical thinking to solve complex problems, develop and implement business plans and lead corporate social responsibility. This is only a snapshot of what is a very challenging career, though it can be rewarding.
To advance to this level in business study: Advanced Diploma of Business
