Individuals in these roles provide leadership, guidance and support to their staff, in order to help them be the best they can be and collectively help the business grow.
A Leadership & Management role is challenging but can also be quite rewarding. There are many different kinds of leadership styles, all with their own advantages and disadvantages. Part of being a good leader is realising what style works best for you and your company and then implementing it. Another aspect of this role is motivating your team and recognising the positive and negative influences you have over them.
Starting or developing a career in human resources is a great choice and the best way to go about doing so is to study a relevant course. The three main courses are the Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma. These courses provide the qualifications necessary to thrive in human resources, whether you’re just starting out, or already have experience in the industry. Understanding how each course relates to the relevant job position is the best way of knowing where to start.
Supervisory Management: Team Leaders
This role is found typically in larger companies, with multiple teams. A team leader is not only responsible for their own performance, but also the performance of their team. They will also provide leadership, guidance and support to their staff. Team leaders help to motivate the team and achieve goals set by the company.
To begin this career path, study Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.
Middle Management: Managers
This job is a step up from being a team leader. At this level, instead of looking after one team, managers tend to monitor the performance of the team leaders, and the teams they supervise. Being a manager is a challenging role, as they are also responsible for planning, organising, implementing and monitoring not just their own workload, but those they manage as well.

Senior Management: Senior Managers or CEOs
Leadership & management at this level requires a lot of experience and knowledge. these managers use initiative and judgement to plan and implement a range of functions, while also ensuring all employees below them are performing their roles to the best of their abilities. They are also responsible for making sure the business is successful and that strategies are in place to achieve the right goals.
